Company Profile
Since the early 1990s Rare Earth Heartwoods has been a leader in finding buildings containing outstanding pitch pine and saving this historic wood from demolition.
Only the finest woods are shipped from around the world to Rare Earth Heartwood's mill in Clonmel, where it is resawn, kiln-dried, milled and graded. From the selection of timbers to our customer service and product guarantee, no one can give you the experience and quality of Rare Earth Heartwoods. We grade each batch of wood to exclude boards with major differences in grain pattern and colour. Even so, some variations will remain. The fact that no two pieces are identical is one of the main factors that makes working with wood, or living with it in the home, such a satisfying and curative experience.
Reclamation
- During the 60s and 70s there was an abundance of discarded timber from factory renovations and the demolition of redundant docks, wharfs and a wide range of commercial and industrial buildings
- Since then there has been a steady decline in the availability of good quality, old timber from these sources; and for good reason
- Local authorities, architects, planners and conservationalists have actively encouraged their preservation.
- The demand from Europe and North America for reproduction furniture made from old timber, has added to the general scarcity
